MY SPEECH: FOR YOUR CONFERENCE
Every farmer has stories. Mine span a half century, two countries and a mix of crops and growing arrangements. They are more than the subject of farming and are intended to reach people from all walks of life. They include stories about feeding a community of hippies, pioneering organic farming, immersing myself in the farm labor community and life-changing – and life-saving – work with men and women coming home from war. I can customize a talk for your group that will engage, inform and inspire. I have walked the walk and spent decades learning to produce vegetables. My experience spans a wide range of crops, scale and technology. I’ve sold at roadside stands, I’ve supplied the fanciest restaurants and I’ve produced for the country’s largest distributors.

We can only measure success by how simply and powerfully we can help others to find the same success. I founded our nation’s largest nonprofit organization assisting veterans--and currently serving members--of the armed forces to embark on careers in agriculture. I have learned that leadership means the courage to act. A good team, on a farm or anywhere else, incorporates team building into the mix. I have built the most important component a farmer or public speaker can possess-a good reputation. Now in my sixth decade of farming, I still like the work so much that I want to spend time sharing my knowledge.
